anarlotte

My name has French origins, and it means "petite and feminine". *Boisterous laughter* Wait a minute...do I hear gagging? Shuddap!

Having a name that ends with "te" has caused some confusion with the pronounciation. Since time immortal, people have called me "cha-lot-tee". Even some teachers would hesitate a little when they read my name off the class register. So, to minimize the discomfort I'd prepare myself to shout out "CHARLOTTE" after the teacher (usually a new, I-am-going-to-make-a-difference-in-the-lives-of-all-these-wonderful-kids relief teacher) has read the name of the person before mine. I guess it's understandable...you know, it's a cheena thing to butcher english words. Take "spaghetti" for example, some people say "spa-get-tee". Walau. Please. You don't even deserve to eat it if you can't even say it right. Or even the word "spanner"...more often than not, I hear people calling it a "spa-nar" WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Okay I'm just being bitchy. Hell, I can't even spiak decent chinese :P Normal conversational chinese is ok and by normal I mean shallow stuff like the weather or how's-your-day kinda of conversation. Not a discussion on the political situation brewing between China and Taiwan or about homosexuality in chinese culture, etc. Yea, that was a glimpse of my very first conversation with an ex-colleague from China. Who is a nice guy by the way. Super nice cuz he didn't grin like a blardy ediot or fall to the ground, convulsing when I replied in chinese...unlike my "O" level Chinese oral examiner. That ass.

The point of this entry is to draw attention to the sad plight of being named Charlotte. Besides being called char-lot-tee (Hokkien translation: fried bread) by a NURSE no less, I've been called "salad", "shallot"...just to name a few.

And now this: ANARLOTTE
DIE PEOPLE DIE!
Even my mum's laughing at me. Great.
